An awful lot of questions remain unanswered, including how the new league would handle Valve-imposed bans on players involved in the recent match-fixing scandal. It's not yet a done deal, and the report says other CS:GO organizations are trying to reach Valve, which is apparently in the midst of its annual employee holiday in Hawaii, in hopes that it will intervene. If they can't, or if Valve decides to stay hands-off, it will mean some very big changes to the pro CS:GO scene. It all began with the rise of Dota 2 when cosmetic items (items which change the appearance of your character) burst into the Dota 2 scene. Not long after Dota2Lounge was born with the premise of creating a comfortable platform for trading your cosmetic items. These cosmetic items, with their variety of rarities, also had a monetary value. This is where the cosmetic skin betting began. Dota2Lounge released their cosmetic skin betting platform soon after , which allowed gamers to place a set amount of skins (four in total) on either team in a matchup. They said part of Ultra Cheats' money comes from a different site that it operates in Brazil (a huge gaming market) and reseller sites, which sell Ultra Cheats' product under a different brand in exchange for a cut of sales. The new ColdGame's CS:GO team is composed of Call of Duty 4 players that had solid work on the European scene before the game more or less died out. They managed to win several online tournaments before the end of their way on CoD 4.The truth is that getting better at Counter-Strike by only playing Counter-Strike can be a really slow, ineffective way to get better at Counter-Strike. Especially if you aren’t taking the time to watch and analyze your own matches, it’s possible to spend months or years making the same mistakes.

Traditional sports betting is a widespread industry and does generate a lot of revenue; I think eSports betting will easily fit right in. I don’t think the eSports betting industry particularly needs the big players in traditional sports betting to fit in, but we’ve highlighted some areas where they can really create a splash within eSports and fill potential gaps in the market. We’ve seen some big players such as William Hill come in to eSports but the betting company hasn’t made any visible investment and is lacking in the quality of bets on matches they feature on the website in my opinion.

The ESEA has also issued bans against the seven players in question, saying that while the bans are currently set for one year, it reserves the right to extend them indefinitely. It noted that it has since implemented its own policy explicitly forbidding players, managers, and sponsors from betting on their own matches, adding, "We strongly encourage all organizations, regardless of their affiliation with Valve, to mirror and enforce these bans so that a clear message is sent—there is no place for match fixing in professional gaming."Months after the original article was published, when it seemed as though the CS:GO match-fixing controversy had been forgotten, more incriminating evidence was released about the iBUYPOWER players. This prompted Valve to keep them home from the MLG Aspen tournament to run an investigation into these allegations. During year one, Ubisoft will release four new maps, eight new operators, new game modes and cosmetic items. "Maps and modes will be free and available immediately for everyone," the post reads. "New operators and most weapon skins can be unlocked with earned currency called Renown, or with R6 Credits... The only new content that will be available exclusively by purchase will be a small number of premium weapon skins that are purely aesthetic and have no impact on gameplay." Battery life has long been a joke for gaming laptops. To yield gaming prowess of any measure, notebooks are normally affectionately named “desktop replacements” and never disconnected from the wall. As modern architectures have improved process nodes and reduced power requirements, it's finally become possible for gaming laptops to operate for a moderate amount of time on battery. Battery life is dictated by a few key points: Active power consumption of the components, thermal levels of the system and battery, and power efficiency at other locations in the stack (S0iX on CPUs, DevSleep with SSDs, for instance).

There are other ways in which eSports are similar to their sports counter-parts, but as recent match-fixing dilemmas show us, using the institutional models that sports provide can only create further issues, as one organization ends up taking on too many roles at once. Team Fnatic are the DreamHack Summer 2015 champions! The Swedish team had to overcome the returning champions Ninjas in Pyjamas in the playoffs and as well as Natus Vincere in the grand final in order to lift the trophy on the main stage in front of home crowd. All of this data was revealed in a recent CD Projekt Red financial brief led by CEO Adam Kicinski. The Witcher 2 cost the company just $10.3 million – small change for a large video game – but we've now learned that The Witcher 3 had a total cost of $81 million. For perspective, GTA V cost $265 million, Star Citizen is in the range of $90 million, and Destiny cost upwards of $500 million (including marketing).Regardless, despite Valve’s one-false-move-and-your-career-gets-blown-to-smithereens ultimatum, I doubt this is the last we’ll hear about match fixing and CSGO. As long as people and organizations stand to benefit from it, certain folks will keep trying. Here’s hoping players find the courage to do the right thing and speak up.You could argue that microtransactions are what saved Counter-Strike: Global Offensive from being doomed to an average-sized community. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the system is great. To be honest, I think the FPS genre is just so saturated, and CS:GO has really just made it difficult for FPS games to compete in this market. CS:GO has done a great job of making the experience so polished. It's got everything you'd really want from an FPS game. The whole presentation and everything is so... it's just really difficult for us to really draw a crowd away from these guys.Truth be told, I think our game would have done better if it wasn't free-to-play. That's my opinion - I don't represent the opinions of the people that I work with. If I was in charge, I wouldn't have gone that route. Free-to-play works for certain games that really allow you to have a lot of items and a lot of cosmetic visual upgrades.

Many games use this ‘skill based’ matchmaking system to make the game balanced; this is where the hacks come into place. The higher the rank you are the more likely you are to run into hacker, this is mainly because everyone tries to get out of ‘scrub’ (silver) ranks and rush to gold nova and they inevitably end up against a hacker with no skill that obtained their rank due to their use of hacking. And they think hacking is unfair so of course … those that come up against this sometimes go to get hacks themselves to make it more fair (Hacker vs Hacker). This happens more and more often, eventually there will probably be hackers in the silver as well. For rifles, the changes boiled down to decreasing accuracy, and the latest CS:GO blog post details the rationale behind them: Valve was hoping to make spraying less appealing compared with burst fire. Instead, the patch made all forms of fire less accurate and people kept on spraying anyway, penalising the minority who do tap fire.A full roll-back is a spectacular step down for a company running a competitive game, and the saga has left many wondering (not for the first time) why Valve doesn't run larger trials before foisting changes on the whole population. This time, the magnitude of the misstep has clearly sunk in.In an interview with director Jeff Kaplan, the lid was lifted on what Team 4 — the internal descriptor for the team assigned to work on Overwatch — calls loot boxes. “Every time you level up we give you a reward,” Kaplan explained. The teams were divined in to two groups, each one consisting of four teams. The structure of the competition was set to the traditional best-of-one double elimination format for the group stage and best-of-three single elimination for the playoffs, including the grand final, and using the default competitive map pool. First up, veteran fans will enjoy the return of Train, a classic map that was a part of the standard rotation a few months ago but was retired so that Valve could work on it and give it a new lease on life. The revamped version features plenty of major changes and is available currently as part of the Operation Vanguard map group, which is offered for free to all owners of the game. However, the view that the “competitive spirit” of CS:GO was being corrupted by skins was far from the opinion of the majority. Indeed, fans of professional CS:GO would purchase skins to enjoy spectatorship in a new way, while those looking to increase the value of their in-game inventory began to watch and enjoy professional CS:GO.Mortal Kombat X moves the timeline forward 25 years, giving the game the opportunity to show older versions of existing fighters as well as some of their kids. This translates into 24 playable characters, with a decent split between existing combatants and new ones. Returning characters include Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Kenshi, a gray-haired Liu Kang, Raiden, and more. Eight characters are new, with four falling on the bad guy end of the spectrum and four humans that descend from "old" fighters. Those four also figure heavily into the game's storyline as Cassie Cage, the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, teams up with Jax's daughter Jacqui, Kenshi's son Takeda, and a descendant of Kung Lao named Kung Jin to basically save all the realms from Mortal Kombat 4's end boss, Shinnok, and his right-hand man, Quan ChiThe story mode uses the same structure as Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us, slotting characters into chapters and having you go through a few fights with them before moving on. It's a decent way to get exposed to the different characters, but the story itself is all over the place. It starts a couple of years after the events of the previous game, then jumps ahead 25 years, but then a lot of the characters keep having flashbacks to events that happened five years before that. Some of the old fighters (including some who, annoyingly, aren't playable here) have become evil "revenants" that fight alongside Quan Chi, and keeping track of who is on what side in each part of the timeline is a chore. It all wraps up a little too quickly, too, with the four Kombat Kidz traipsing into just the right place at just the right time a few too many times for my tastes. On top of that, while the game still impressively transitions into and out of fights and its nice-looking cutscenes, a handful of Quick Time Events have been added to the proceedings, distracting from the storytelling a bit as you stare near the bottom of the screen just in case this cutscene happens to be one that contains a few lame button presses. While the lead characters, their backgrounds, and their motivations are far, far better here than they were in the games that came after Mortal Kombat 3 in the pre-reboot timeline, I still found the story to be a little disappointing, overall. The action in MKX builds off of the systems and mechanics of both the previous game and, to some extent, Injustice: Gods Among Us. The buttons, basic fighting, and concepts of a three-part super meter, combo breakers, X-rays, and EX versions of special moves are all pretty much intact, though now you can EX your throws, which cancels the throw and leaves the enemy standing there, ready for another set of attacks as long as you're quick about it. You can also execute a block breaker, which works similarly to the combo breakers but pushes an enemy back while you're blocking instead of when you're taking hits. The fighting feels faster and more fluid than the previous game, but some of the more basic juggle combos feel like they're a little easier to land, too.

Gamasutra recently sat down to play some CS:GO with Le, and chat about his thoughts on Counter Strike and the industry in general. Here's Le in his own words.I was working with Valve for about five years, and I left at the end of 2006. I started a new game called Tactical Intervention. I guess a lot of people wonder why I left Valve -- everyone wants to work at Valve, right? I think at the time, they were at the stage where there wasn't a lot of push towards a new Counter Strike game. At the time they were working on Team Fortress 2, and I felt that I wanted to focus more on a game that was similar to CS.
